Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 1/2 cups frozen cherries
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • 2 tbs corn starch
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 tsp active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 1/2 cups bread flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 6 tbs unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 4 tbs unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 3 oz cream cheese, room temperature
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 13 tbs whole milk

Instructions

  1. Prepare the cherry filling by simmering frozen cherries, sugar, cold water, and corn starch in a saucepan until thickened.
  2. In a bowl, mix warm water and yeast; let it froth for 5 minutes. In another bowl, whisk together milk, sugar, eggs, flour, and salt. Combine with the yeast mixture and knead in softened butter until smooth.
  3. Allow the dough to rise in a warm place until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
  4. Roll out the dough into a rectangle, spread the cherry filling evenly, then roll it tightly and slice into pieces.
  5. Place in a greased baking dish and let rise again for 30 minutes before baking at 350°F (175°C) for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Prepare cream cheese frosting by mixing softened butter, cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk to desired consistency. Drizzle over warm rolls before serving.
