  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 500 g ground beef
  • 1 large white onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 330 ml dark beef broth
  • 300 ml beef stock
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 sheet puff pastry
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (390°F).
  2. In a skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Brown the minced beef and set aside.
  3. Sauté chopped onions until soft, add garlic, then stir in flour for one minute.
  4. Gradually mix in dark beef broth while scraping the pan for flavor.
  5. Add browned beef back into the pan with beef stock, tomato paste, thyme, salt, and pepper. Simmer for about 45 minutes.
  6. Transfer filling to a pie dish and cover with puff pastry; seal edges.
  7. Brush pastry with beaten egg and make a small steam hole.
  8. Bake for about 30 minutes until golden brown.
